Use hardness pencils to scratch the coating surface to test the surface hardness of the coating layer. The tip of the pencil lead in contact with the coating surface, and an appropriate load is applied. Move the test platform at a certain speed so that the coating surface passes under the pencil tip. The hardest pencil grade that does not cause damage (scratches) to the coating surface can be considered as the hardness of the coating layer.
